Conditions of transport

  •    We have over 40 years of experience in transporting horses.

  •    All horses are transported by my self Mike Gee B.H.S.I or my partner Adele Mason B.H.S.A.I  Int SM

  •   I hold the BHEST Level 3 Advanced certificate in Equine transport for transporting horses over long distances.

  •    In order to transport horses legally for hire and reward we have the following:

  •    Operators Licence number. OB1038176   (This means that the vehicles over 3.5 tonnes are inspected on a regular basis  by qualified mechanic and  the premises are registered and inspected and that all drivers have to comply with drivers hours using tachograph and various other legalisation. )

  •    As most horses are covered for travelling we do not provide horses in transit insurance but  can recommend  insurers if required.

  •     In addition we DEFRA approved UK/LINCO/T2/00002241 this means that both my self and Adele meet the requirements laid down by the government for the care of horses in transit .

  •    Competitive prices

  •    Friendly experienced service.

  •    CCTV   the horses are monitored in transit.

  •    Temperature monitored in transit.

  •    Traveling equipment : we can provide  equipment if required (do ask when booking )

  •    We can arrange to take your horse to Veterinary appointments Sales or competitions.

  •    You are welcome to travel with us or we are quite happy to take horses ourselves we can provide additional grooms if required.

  •    We do not do shared transport  but will look for  return loads to ease the costs if given enough time. (If you are wanting cheap transport there are plenty of operators transporting multiple loads of up to 16 or more on a truck that will be able to transport your horse on specific days at a price I will not try to match)

I will be only to happy to discuss pricing please get in touch. If you are getting quotes from others do check that they have operators licence and are insured remember if it is too cheap to be true it is!!  see text below form.

Any contract cancelled within 24 hours of departure will pay 50% of  estimated costs. Any contract cancelled within 12 hours of departure time may be charged  full amount  of estimated costs.

PLEASE REMBER TO LEAVE SOME WAY FOR ME TO CONTACT YOU ON THE FORM!

It is illegal for someone to transport your animals for hire or reward without an operators license. Insurance held will be invalidated .

Any vehicle over 3.5 tons gross plated weight used to transport horses for payment must have operators license.

Those offering horse transport without an operators license are doing so illegally and risk the confiscation of their lorry.

Next to the tax disc on the windscreen there should be either be blue ( standard national license) or green ( standard international license). This should have the registration number of the vehicle, the operators name, the operators license number, the disc expiry date and the type of license.

"Some time ago before starting the horse transport business I was unaware of the hire and reward laws and was stopped on the A64 York bypass. I was prosecuted and fined for travelling a horse for hire and reward.

The horse was a livery that I was returning to his owner and It was agreed I was making no charge for the transport of the horse. However the view taken was that it was a perk that the livery owner was getting from me and therefore part of my business deal with him . So in effect was for reward!"

This raises quite a few problems for livery owners and riders transporting horses that are not there own.

Goods Vehicle Operator Licensing

The Transport Act 2000 allows DTLR to give the Vehicle Inspectorate (VI) powers to impound the vehicles of illegal operators (those who should have an operators licence but do not). An impounding scheme has been devised in consultation with the Road Haulage Association, Freight Transport Association and others and we expect VI to start impounding vehicles later this year. Impounding should provide a strong deterrent and the first truly effective sanction against illegal operation.
